Coop’s Map Series to Railroads and Railroad Museums has been printed entirely on kenaf, a tree-free paper. Kenaf is a member of the hibiscus family. The plant grows quickly and reaches heights of 12-14 feet in as little as half a year. Since kenaf is harvested for it’s stalk, no pesticides are used. The paper is totally chlorine free, and no dioxins or chlorine compunds are created or released in the manufacturing process. The kenaf crop is grown in New Mexico and the paper is sold by Vision Paper in Albuquerque.

A healthy environment and economy will depend on diversifying our paper sources!
